Zhanghe Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by the Regional Survey Party under the Geological Bureau of Yunnan Province in 1961. The naming locality is situated in the vicinity of the Zhangjia River, Xiazhuang Village, Xiangyun County, Yunnan Province, with its reference section being located in the area extending from the Xiazhuang Village to the Pupeng region, Xingyun County, Yunnan Province.

Lithology and Thickness
Lower member is composed largely of yellow-green and grey-green fine-, and medium-grained sandstones, intercalated with purple sandy mudstones, with a thickness of 798 m. Upper member is composed mainly of purple sandy mudstones, intercalated with violet-grey sandstones, and with its lower part containing many layers of grey marls and grey-green and yellow-green calcareous mudstones, with a thickness of 1878 m.

Lower contact
It is in a conformable contact with the underlying Fengjiahe Fm
Upper contact
Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Shedian Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in the Chuxiong Basin of Yunnan Province, with a consistent lithology in various regions, yet with a great variation in its thickness, commonly being of 1180-1860 m, with a maximum thickness being of 2500-2600 m, and with a minimum thickness being of 585 m.

Fossils
The lower part of the upper member yields clam shrimps as represented by Euestheria xiazhuangensis; ostracods as represented by Darwinula sp. and Metacyporis sp.; bivalves as represented by Pseudocardinia minuta; and the insect Yunnanocarabus litus.
